Care for your flowers (03/09/2007 @ 16:10:45)
Flower Care
How do I care for my flowers?
We all love to receive flowers and so to help you enjoy your gift for as long as possible, there are a number of easy steps that you can follow to ensure the longevity of your arrangement.

Before placing the flowers in a vase/container it is advisable to cut the stem of each flower with a sharp knife and remove about 2-3 cms from the end. Cutting with a knife as opposed to secateurs or scissors will create a larger area ensuring maximum uptake of water. It is also a good idea to remove any leaves, which will be below the water before placing in a vase.

Vases/Containers -It is very important that the flowers are placed into a clean vase to prevent any bacteria affecting the flowers. Gerberas in particularly last longer when placed in a clean container

Water -You may be surprised at the amount of water that flowers require to remain healthy. Add luke warm water to a vase/container as opposed to cold water from the tap. Keep the water topped up every 2-3 days should be sufficient. If you have used flower food do not throw the water away, just add to the existing water. If you receive a gift where the flowers have been arranged in foam (oasis) you can keep the arrangement fresh by adding water to the oasis every 2-3 days but be careful not to add too much or you make create some spillage. Place the arrangement on a place mat to ensure protect the underlying surface.

Flowers will last longer if they are displayed away from direct sunlight and draughty areas. (However if you want the flowers to open up quickly then placing the flowers in a warm room will speed this process up).

Try to avoid placing flowers close to fruit, as the gasses omitted by the fruit will cause the flowers to die prematurely.

Enjoy your flowers!

Summer Weddings (06/01/2007 @ 12:30:38)

With summer weddings in mind the 'In colours' still seem to be dark red and gold
for another year and a lot of brides are choosing red roses as the main theme for their bouquets. There are some interesting new shades coming in this year,
with the use of lime greens, soft browns, peaches and apricot. Wedding designers are shifting to a more pastel theme, to follow the flower trend in general.

Having been a florist for the past thirty years, I smile to myself as i see the styles of years ago coming back, perhaps with a more modern look in the shape of brides bouquets. With that, follows the use of more graceful arrangements in reception venues. Tall slender vases with the simple look of a single rose or perhaps a calla lily with striking foliage.

If your one that likes a lot of show then there are many other things to add such as confettie on the tables, balloons, candles and much more to make your day more perfect.

Don't forget that a wedding takes a while to put together so plan well ahead.
Popular wedding venues and florists are pre-booked years in advance so take the time to go to the wedding shows for ideas. Then you can choose what you would like as a theme for your wedding.

See you soon

Mothers Day (22/02/2007 @ 14:11:06)

So is Mothering Sunday a pleasure…. or a chore?

Most of us don't have famous mothers but they're stars to us in their own right.
Being a mother is all about loving, sharing, self-sacrifice, character, and too many other efforts that often go unnoticed and most of the time un-thanked!

Thank goodness the heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

Finding gifts for Mums can be difficult at times, especially if she is particular about the things that she likes.

Most Mums are usually grateful for whatever they receive. More so from sons, than from daughters as sons tend to forget until the last moment and then struggle to find something that will do!. You should always remember your mum is a clever lady and will know if it's a last minute gift!

So this year, why not make a difference and order your gift now while you have chance to select something that she will really like for Mothering Sunday!

You can make the task a lot more pleasurable, when you select one of our Mothers day gifts from the great range of bouquets that we offer at Posies
uk
.

Celebrate Mothers Day with a bouquet of flowers, a hug and a thank you; that's all it takes.

Don't say you have not been reminded!

Good luck on Mothering Sunday

Valentin's Choice (06/01/2007 @ 19:05:31)

So you want to make sure that your flower gift
is a great success for Valentine's Day.....?

First of all you need to find out what colour and what kinds of flowers your lady prefers. She might be a fan of the single red rose with a romantic card written by you with a small poem about your epic love. Or she may be a fan of the big hand tied bouquet
that come in a multitude of colours. Now chances are that your loved one is somewhere in between the two when it comes to favorite valentine day flowers. If you're not sure how you should go about finding out what kind of flowers she likes you can try the following. If she has any graduation pictures with her holding some flowers that her parents bought her, chances are the flowers in her hands are the type she likes. If you can't find any such treasures, then try subtly asking her what kind of flowers she likes to look at and smell. Some girls may not know what their favorite flowers are, but all girls have a favorite colour.
You can't go wrong by getting flowers of her favorite colour because the association of her favorite color with a from her amazing boyfriend or husband is never going to be a bad one.

So if at all possible, try to ask the flower shops to create a bouquet with the colors of her choice. The wrapping of the flowers will also make a big impression,
so if you choose to go with a box to hold your red, white or pink roses that's great. A cellophane wrapping around your flower choice will also look nice.

If you are modern thinking and you feel the lady in your life is too...then there are many designs that you can choose from and your florist will only be too happy to show you.

One more tip to make sure your valentine day flowers make your sweet heart happy is to make sure to grab a few extra "flower food" packets from the flower shop. These will keep her flowers looking fresh and smelling great for longer, thus giving you some extra brownie points and possibly more kisses at the end of the night.

Happy Valentine day and good luck!

Regards

Ray
